The Hebrides

Without any doubt, one of my favorite places to visit is the Scottish islands.  Indeed my first visit to Scotland was shortly after leaving school when I visited Harris and Lewis.  After that, several visits followed to the many hills on Arran, Skye, Mull, and Eigg.  During this time, along with few friends we chartered a yacht and circumnavigated Mull, the following year we chartered another boat and circumnavigated Skye. By this time, the Hebrides was becoming one of my favorite areas in Scotland.

For many years, St. Kilda was firmly at the top of the list of places in the British Isles that I wanted to visit.  In 2016, I finally managed to visit this lovely isolated island group.  Over the past few years, I have returned a few times to St Kilda as part of my work as a wildlife guide.

The image above was taken one April morning whilst on Northern Lewis and is one of my favorite images from these two joined islands.  It was an HDR image that was taken just before Sunset using a 10 stop ND filter.  This resulted in a long exposure time (from memory about 20 minutes which allowed the resulting milky sea)
