The Robin

Despite its small size of just 12 to 14cm, and weighing around 20g the Robin is an easy recognisable bird which is considered as part of the Chat family of birds.  It is always a favourite in peoples gardens where it can become very tame as it searches for food.  due to its colour it is one of the most popular wildlife subjects and is found on numerous Christmas cards each year.

In Britain we have good numbers of robins all year round, but during the winter months the numbers increase significantly as they are joined by large numbers of migratory robins flying in from Scandinavia to spend the winter here where it is warmer and food is easier to find.  It is found over most of continental Europe with many birds flying west to the warmer countries during the winter months. Some birds also migrate to Northern Africa during the winter.
