Great White Egret

The Great White Egret has a large range across most of the world.  There are four sub species which only vary a  little between them.  They can be found across Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and the on many of the islands  between these continents.  Like many of the water birds such other Egrets, the Great White Egret is expanding its range North and in recent years it is now often found in England.  Although they are not yet a common bird,  each year the numbers grow, and if they continue to grow in the same manner as Little Egrets have, then in a few years they will be a relatively common bird.

There is a small reservoir near to me in Leicestershire where Great White Egrets have visited on at least two occasions, but these Great White Egret images below were was taken in Hungary.
