Small Skipper

These Small Skipper
pictures were taken
within a five minute walk
of my Leicestershire home

The first three photos
are of a male, then I found and photographed a
mating pair.

photos taken in July 2009.

Below a selection of older Small Skipper pictures taken also taken in the same Leicestershire location in August 2007 and at Tywell CP, in Northamptonshire in July 2008

This is another Skipper which has a small wingspan.  It is just 30 mm across rather than 28 mm for Essex Skipper and 25 mm for the tiny Lulworth Skipper.  therefore the way to tell them apart is habitat, geographic location, wing pattern and antenna tips.

The small skipper is however very similar in many ways to the the Essex Skipper and the main way to tell the two species apart is it's Orange antenna tips, tells this species apart from the Essex Skipper which has orange antennae with black tips.
