Granville Fritillary

During June 2009, I visited an unlikely wildlife venue for me.  The Isle of Wight, the reason being that it is one of the few remaining sites in Britain to see and photograph the Granville Frit which is one of the 58 species I am attempting to see and photograph.

Weather was lovely and warm, sun is shining but it's very windy.  We went to two Ganville sites both by the beach and we ate lots of ice cream and had a lovely tourist time!!!
We also went to the donkey sanctuary and a garlic farm, and guess what they sold chocolate, chilli and garlic ice cream so it was rude not to try it...

Back to the two Granville Fritillary sites, on the south coast, we managed to see a few Frit's so it can be declared a sucsess.  BUT because of the weather this year and lots of sun, they were earlier than usual this season and most of the examples we saw were either faded worn or both.
The wind has effected my photography and the results are not as good as I had hoped.  But at least I have managed pictures which can be found below.  I also managed a few close shots of a Kestrel in flight.
