Leicestershire Garden Gallery

These pictures are all of birds taken from either the house or the garden and are of wildlife in either the garden or viewed from the garden.

In many instances a better photo of the individual species taken elsewhere can be found in the species pages rather than those taken in the garden shown below.
I have also kept this page to only one picture per species, and often there are more pictures on the individual species pages.

Greater Spotted Woodpecker and Green Woodpeckers

We are very lucky in that two of the three woodpecker species often visit us

Blue, Great, long-tailed and Coal Tits

all visit on a regular basis (obviously more so during the winter months)

Amongst the finches, Goldfinch and Bullfinch are frequent visitors

(as are both Greenfinch and Chaffinch)

Brambling

Brambling was a good surprise find one February morning in 2007
Indeed Brambling are scarce enough to be reported both locally and nationally
so to find c. 6 birds feeding in my garden was very welcome.

Robin

Another common garden bird that you would expect to see in the garden

Sparrowhawk

A few pictures of this occasional visitor to my Leicestershire garden,

also often seen flying past when my camera is nowhere to be seen..........

There are more picture still to sort and save in web format

also there are many more species seen but not photographed from the garden including:
Buzzard, Red-legged Partridge, Jackdaw, etc. etc.

right is a long range picture of a Linnet in a nearby tree

a list of species visiting the garden in the past 12 months would include:
Blackbird
Blue Tit
Brambling
Bullfinch
Buzzard
Carrion Crow
Chaffinch
Coal Tit
Collared Dove
Dunnock
Goldfinch
Great Spotted Woodpecker
Great Tit

  Mammals include

Red Fox

A common visitor often seen from the garden but not usually close enough to photograph, indeed this shot is only just good enough quality to use

Rabbit

Rabbits are also common in the fields at the back of the garden and thankfully only rarely seen in the garden itself.

Usually when in the garden, I am to busy chasing them out rather than taking pictures.
