Hoopoe in Bulgaria

almost 20 years ago I visited Africa long before the days of digital cameras.  One of my target species to see was Hoopoe but I returned home having not seen any.  Ten years later I saw Hoopoe in India but only managed a few snaps, but was pleased to have seen them.  I purchased my first digital SLR camera in May 2006 and went to see a hoopoe in Birmingham in October 2006 however I did not get very near and the results were quite average.

A visit to Bulgaria in May 2010 on a bird photography holiday resulted in a few attempts to get some hoopoe images which were generally unsuccessful until a the very last day of photography when I managed to get the image below which I am pleased with.  this was taken about 5pm on the last afternoon in Bulgaria.
It just goes to show - never give up trying..........
