European Brown Bears |
|
In July 2009, I made a four day visit to Finland to view and photograph Brown Bears. The short visit produced some excellent sightings with around 25 bears seen.

The site is on the borders of Russia and Finland in a very remote part of the vast Taiga forest. It is true wilderness with thousands upon thousands of trees which are one of the few remaining homes of the European Brown Bear. Being so far north, it never actually gets dark and it's possible to view these bears right through the night, although the light is best for photography during the early evening. The large dominant males can weigh over 300kg which is double the weight of the females. |
