Red Backed Shrike

A visit to Fair Isle in June 2008 produced a double figure number of Red Backed Shrikes.  These were seen on various fences across the island along with a few being caught, ringed and then released as part of the work of the Fair Isle Bird Observatory.

Ouch get your beak off my finger......

 

 

Below is a few pictures of a young first year bird in Staffordshire in 2006.  This Red-backed Shrike showed well but only for a brief period.

 

 

Great Grey Shrike

This Great Grey shrike was showing reasonably well at Half Moon Plantation, Snowshill, in Gloucestershire in March 2008
