Short-eared Owl Gallery

When asked, many people say that "Shorties" are their favourite bird and it's not hard to see why.  There are many places where you can go and see these each winter and the shots below are from many visits to a few sites that I know.  These photo's were taken in Gloucestershire, Kent, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.

Great Easton in Leicestershire produced up to three SEO's regularly during the winter 2006 / 07.

Then 2007 / 08 was a complete blank, this may be due to the lack of voles as a result of the floods during the summer of 2007.
However there was Shorties at Streton Pool, not sure if these were the same birds or if they went elsewhere.

But they were back 2008 / 09

On a good evening in Leicestershire it is perfectly possible to see four of the five British Owl species in one evening : SEO, Barn Owl, Tawny, and Little Owl

In my opinion:
SEO are one of the hardest species to get good photographs of, and although I am pleased with these pictures, I would definitely like to see more of these great birds.

I want to progress from good to great pictures.
These pictures where taken at four sites at varying focal lengths ranging from 400 to 600.
