Atlantic Puffin's

Atlantic Puffin - or "Puffin" as it is more commonly called is one of the easiest recognisable and most loved of all British birds.

As such many people want to see them and hence the sign right at Sumburgh Head on Shetland.

Puffins are quite easy to see if you go to the correct place at the correct time of the year (May & June)

The number you see and how close depends on the weather.  It is much easier in sunny weather with not to much wind.

The pictures below are from a variety of locations including:

The Farne Islands, one of the best UK destinations for viewing Puffins, A short boat journey from the Northumberland coast, pictures taken in June 2006

Handa in NW Scotland, also in 2006 and Shetland in 2008.
