Cader Idris
one of Wales's finest,
especially if the Cwn Cau horseshoe is followed"
I have climbed "Cader" several times dating back to the early 1980's, however I have not visited either this mountain or this area as much as I would like. Indeed my visit in April 2004 was my first visit with a digital camera
the route I completed was the
horseshoe route
often called "the Cwm Cau Circuit"
it is 13 km (8 miles) long and is 950 m (3100 feet) of ascent
it ascends three
peaks
Mynydd Pencoed - 798m
Pen y Gadair - 893m (Cader Idris)
Mynydd Moel - 855m

the route starts at Ffridd Gulcwm farm just off the A470 road a couple of Km north of Dinas Mawddwy It is a circular walk on good paths an passes a spectacular waterfall over the craig Maeglase crag before the gradual ascent to the summit. |
