Southern Scottish Hills
this selection on hills on this page are of those North of Glasgow,
but still considered South,
and some of those that don't fit on the other pages

there are numerous mountains that do not fit into categories,
and I decided to publish a few pictures of them.

(the peaks around Ben Lomond have their own page)

Ben Vorlich
&
Struc a' Chroin
vorlich-1.jpg (12200 bytes)
vorlich-2.jpg (14120 bytes) Ben Vorlich is a slog at first but becomes interesting the higher you venture.

The ridge between it and
Struc a' Chroin is good
but the interest in the final ascent depends on the route taken

a memorial stone
near the summit of
Struc a' Chroin

Meall Ghaordie
1039 metres
3409 feet
Starting from Tullich
meall-gh-3.jpg (10740 bytes)
Is described in most books as a not the best Scottish mountain
"There are a handful that fall into the less interesting category and Meall Ghaordie is one of them"
meall-gh-1.jpg (13163 bytes)
It did not help that the weather was dull, the cloud was low and poor navigation techniques meant we had to walk an extra few hours in the drizzle meall-gh-2.jpg (11883 bytes)
one of the most interesting sights
of the day was these mushrooms
seen in a field near old pine woodlands

they are
FLY AGARIC
(Amanita muscaria)

and are poisonous
