The five sisters of Kintail
one of Scotland's best ridge walks

We completed this walk on a day that had a good weather forecast and started off fine

by the time we had reached the first sister the cloud had descended to our level and by the time we had reached the second the weather had changed to rain therefore although we had a reasonable day out, the photos certainly don't reflect how good the ridge was

probably the best view of the ridge that we got all day

the five sisters consist of :

Sgurr nan Spainteach - 990 m (top)

Sgurr na ciste Duibhe - 1027 m (Munro)

Sgurr na Carnach - 1002 m - (Munro)

Sgurr Fhuaran - 1067 m - (Munro)

Sgurr nan Saighead 929 m - (top)

the route we took was - starting at the A87 at the car park below the Bealeach we ascended the steep slopes to the ridge where we turned left (west) and completed the five sisters before descending down to the river Allt a Chruinn and then down to the village of the same name

map -  O/S sheet 33

distance - 16 KM

ascent - approximately 1600m

time - 6 - 8 hours

Sgurr Fhuaran - 1067 m

Sgurr nan Saighead at 929 m, at last some sort of view from a summit

In Cameron McNeish's book he describes this peak as
"the next top Sgurr nan Saighead, is tight and exposed and is in many ways the finest of the group, although it's not even of Munro status!"
