The Ballachulish Horse shoe
the horse shoe containing the two peaks of
Beinn a'Bheithir & Sgorr Dhonuill

many people do this horseshoe when conditions are to bad to climb in Glencoe, this is a mistake if this is done you miss out (I know I have previously completed this horse shoe on these damp days)
If you are not careful, you quickly end up in boggy forestry land, the ridge can become very windy as it is quite exposed, and there is no view

a fine pair of Munro's with good views over Glencoe, Mamores, the Ben, and many west coast islands
they rise to over a 1000 meters and are a good day out

we started the walk from the forestry land and surprisingly found a good path

the fact that it was so cold assisted us as the normally boggy ground had frozen over making walking more pleasant in the lower forest

the route we took was - to be added.

Beinn a'Bheithir

continuing on to Sgorr Dhonuill

map -  O/S sheet 41

distance - 16 KM

ascent - approximately 1200m

time - 6 hours

the summits of
Beinn a'Bheithir
and
Sgorr Dhonuill

this October day was far from our usual
"another Scottish summit in the rain with no view"
