the
Aonach Eagach
ridge

often referred to as the best ridge walk on the British mainland

The first Munro on the ridge

These pictures are from a crossing of the ridge in Feb 2004

there was a bit of "left over snow" a few weeks old that had not yet melted.

the ridge was certainly easier being in generally summer conditions

my view is that the ridge is not as hard as its reputation
it is an excellent day out

try to go when its not to crowded
to avoid having to queue as this will considerably slow you down

what better ridge walking
than this ?

the Munro at the west end of the ridge

Sgorr nam Fhionnaidh

the excellent views towards the A82 road bridge and out to sea

the above pictures help to confirm the comment in many guide books
"the best ridge walk on the British mainland"

The pictures below are from previous crossings of the ridge
I have completed the crossing at least a dozen times since
I first completed it in the early 1980's

these pictures were all taken before I had a digital camera and as such are scanned from old slides and prints traversing between the two Munro's
of
Meall Dearg
and
Sgorr nam Finnaidh

this picture and the one to the right
were taken at virtually the same spot

what a difference to time taken
with  added visibility, and daylight

these pictures taken just a few months apart

darkness falling fast above the Claichagh gully
the picture above looks good,  but it was very dark by the time we reached the valley
we realised we
"should have started earlier
or spent less time taking photos"
