Ruadh Stac Mor
& A'Mhaighdean
arguably the most remote mountains in mainland Britain
the two Munro's in "the great wilderness" Ruadh Stac Mor & A'Mhaighdean are generally accepted as the most remote of all the Munro's.
We climbed them as part of a 3 day back pack of 6 Munro's staying at the famous Shenavall bothy
day one : afternoon start walking in to the bothy day two : the ridge walk of the Beinn a' Chlaidheimh to Ben Tarsuinn ridge
day three : Ruadh Stac Mor
& A'Mhaighdean

the route we took was - from the Shenavall bothy we crossed the river and headed directly for the hunting lodge where we crossed a second river. we then followed the path upstream until it split. We followed the split gradually ascending height until this path split again where we followed the path to the Bealach between the two peaks. we climbed Ruadh Stac Mor first before returning to the Bealach and onto & A'Mhaighdean. From the summit of A'Mhaighdean, we traversed across loosing height before descending steep ground to the river below. We followed the river back to the hunting lodge where we crossed the two rivers again before returning back to the bothy map - O/S sheet 19 distance - 20 KM ascent - approximately 1700m time - 8 hours (round trip from Shenavall bothy) |

A'Mhaighdean is
generally considered as the more remote of the two (there is under a hour's
worth of walking between then)
