the Kentemere Round

a walk I have wanted to do for some time
that I finally walked in April 2000

St. Cuthberts church, Kentmere the walk started and finished in Kentmere village near St. Cuthberts church
walking up the Garburn pass towards the start of the ridge
starting along the ridge up on to Yoke the first of the days 9 peaks
the summit of Yoke 706 meters
looking down at the Kentmere reservoir
ascending Ill Bell 757 meters
looking back at Ill Bell and Yoke from near the top of Frostwick

Frostwick was our third peak at 720 meters

approaching Thorthwaite Crag which is also seen in the two pictures below
Thorthwaite Crag was our lunch stop before ascending to High Street the highest point of the day but a much less impressive peak
looking down on Kentmere reservoir from the slopes of High Street at the head of the valley
the summit of High Street at 828 was just over half way around the circuit, we had completed 6.1 miles and had 6.2 miles to go

however we had by now ascended 950 of the 1200 meters of the round

looking across to Marble Ill Bell
by now we were getting good views of the peaks climbed earlier in the day
Mardale Ill Bell
the top of Harter Fell at 778 meters
descending near Shipman Knotts

total ascent
1203 meters

 12.3 miles / 19.5 km
