the
walk started at Stair where we were staying for the weekend
we walked a short distance along the road to Skelgill and then
ascended Cat Bells |
|
| |
|
| |
Cat Bells is a good first peak
it looks quite hard from below and as you ascend it. It has
superb views over Derwent water
but from higher
on the ridge it looks like a small bump |
| |
|
|
The first peak that has a height that is "mountain" status is High
Spy
it is 653 meters
(generally a peak needs to reach 600m to be regarded as a mountain
in England & Wales) |
|
|
| |
from High spy there is quite a drop to a small tarn before regaining
the ridge on Dale head |
|
| |
Dale Head is both the first and highest of the three main peaks at
the head of the horseshoe
Dale Head is 753
meters |
|
| |
following
Littledale Edge the path detours over to
Hindscarth - 727 meters
and on to
Robinson - 737 meters |
|
| |
after Robinson the path crosses some small rags before descending
"high snab bank" from here it passes High Snab before meeting the
road.
we followed the
road through Little Town and back to Stair |
|
|
starting
