Rock Climbing
on
Stanedge Edge

the home of Peak grit

as such these are a very tiny sample of my Stanedge climbing,
I have climbed over 300 routes on Stanedge

I might even try to count them when the new guide arrives later in 1999

Stanedge End
the relatively (??)
uncrowded end of Stanedge

Black Hawk Hell Crack
& Black Hawk Traverse

why Stanedge ??

as I say on plenty of other pages
"The peak district is not
"my favorite place to climb"
but as it is easiest the closest climbing to my home,
and over the years,
I have climbed here more than anywhere else.

and probably
the place I've climbed the most on Peak Grit is
Stanedge

however it has got variety

the Cioch on Skye

although I have climbed at Stanedge more than any other crag
to me it hasn't got the appeal the same as
"the big mountain routes"
I hope these pictures will show some good climbing

Stanedge edge

is not just used for traditional or hard climbing

it is often used for training

as these pictures of my day there with Wollaston school show

The longest route of the weekend was

Blizard Chimney

peak-doe-14.jpg (17560 bytes)
belaying skills now fully learnt

with each person able to belay
and tie all their own knots

instructors set up top rope
then the pupils tied on
all climbers and belayers
they then completed all the climbs belaying each other

during this time they were obviously under supervision and safety checks

a longer mixed route with many different
climbing styles needed

during the weekend we also climbed
at Windgater Rocks
