choosing a
wild campsite |
 |

finding
a suitable campsite is not only important for comfort,
but also can affect your safety and well-being.
care should be taken in
choosing a campsite,
the benefits will be repaid in comfort, freedom from the unexpected!
and unwanted happenings during the night
(or following morning). |

any campsite must
fulfill
the following criteria:
- able to provide shelter from the wind
( to aid a good nights sleep and help with cooking)
- permissible to camp on the site
- free from danger
(flash floods; cattle: sharing a site with livestock is asking for trouble!)
- able to offer some degree of privacy
- within easy reach of water
(but not to near)
- reasonably level
(have you ever tried putting your tent up on a mountainous hill side??)
- able to provide a secure anchorage for the
tent and sufficiently soft to offer the prospect of a good nights sleep
(the tent should not fall down due to pitching on a poor site)

remember
there should be no trace of
the site ever been used as a campsite as you leave.
all campers should take pride
in being able to remain clean, warm and dry,
well-fed and comfortable under all the conditions that they are likely to encounter.

good campers
leave nothing behind but their thanks
