there are many climbing pages on this site

rock climbing

is a area where I am heavily involved in tuition from beginners groups having a  "taster" session on a climbing wall through to training leaders in group practice and personal climbing skills.

first tuition
is often on an indoor wall
(Birmingham Rock Face)

or on an outdoor tower
such as Grendon
(see pictures at top of page)

this should progress naturally,
to climbing on real crags

(the two pictures below are of
Birchen Edge, Peak district)

Techniques

have a look at the pictures above,
for closer inspection of the set up used look again at the picture right

the system used is a "top rope"
this allows young people to be belayed from above - thus safely

above right
you will see two anchor points at the top
therefore allowing a back-up in the event of equipment failure

during my training everyone MUST wear a helmet and everything is double checked before use.

A) you see the young people are climbing,
B) belaying  (in direct charge of the climber)
and C) acting as safety back up on the belay rope

therefore three people are directly gaining experience in safe climbing techniques

you can also see (on the top picture) the rest of the group are at a safe distance from the rock face.
