Joan Blaeu

"LEICESTRENSIS COMITATIS"

A fine engraved 17th century map of the county. The title is shown on a banner. A plinth displays an array of eight coats of arms of the nobility plus two blank shields.

Scale cartouche with putti. Royal Arms and the Arms of England.

Badeslade & Toms

"Leicestershire"

Thomas Badeslade flourished between about 1720 and 1745. He trained as a Surveyor and became a Map Maker.

William Henry Toms is known to have worked between around 1725 to 1758.
Apart from his talents as an Engraver, he worked as a publisher & print seller.

The map is from the 2nd edition of their atlas published in 1745, although the maps bear the date 1742.

It is believed that they were produced for King George II, who intended to make a tour of his Kingdom.

The map was drawn by R. Creighton and engraved by J. and C. Walker.

A good detailed engraved map of the two counties embellished with an uncoloured vignette view of St. Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray. List of Hundreds, explanation and scale.

Thomas Mule

This map was typical of many maps produced by Thomas Mule in the mis 19th century.

Each edition added a few more railways as railways covered more areas of Britain.  Some editions were produced in quite large quantities.
