The Wildlife
and Countryside Act.

Although we have a moral duty to protect the countryside there is the full back up of the law to help protect our environment, and ignorance of the law is no excuse. A number of birds, plants and animals that numbers of which are low have been made "schedule one Protected species" (the number of species that are protected under schedule one is currently : 82 of birds, 42 of animals, and 61 of flowers). It is an offence to disturb either the habitat, or the species themselves, or to photograph either on the nest or with young any "schedule one" wildlife without a licence from the nature conservancy council. Penalties include a fine of up to 2000 pounds, or six months imprisonment or both.

As most people could not name these species let alone be able to recognise them you should take care. You have been warned. Although a lot of other wildlife, and the environment in general, is protected by law to a lesser degree, you should consider it a moral as well as a legal responsibility to protect and take care of it.
